Constructing a Pole Barn
How it Works
Constructing a pole barn as a site-built structure allows for more customization than pre-fabricated or kit-based options—including layout, height, door placement, and interiors adapted to your intended use.
1. Site Evaluation & Layout Planning
1. Site Evaluation & Layout Planning
We look at access, grading, drainage, and how the building will sit on the property. We discuss with you how you plan to use the space, so that the layout and full design of your pole barn make sense for the long term.
2. Design & Customization
2. Design & Customization
Because the pole barn is site-built, the size, wall height, post spacing, and openings can be adjusted based on what you need to store or how you plan to use the space. This step is all about making sure the layout and complete design work in real life, not just on paper.
3. Permitting & Scheduling
3. Permitting & Scheduling
We coordinate local permits based on your township or municipality. Once approvals are in place on the design, the build schedule is set so that site prep, materials, and crews are all aligned.
4. Framing, Electrical, & Utilities
4. Framing, Electrical, & Utilities
The structure is framed to establish the walls, roof system, and overall shape of the pole barn, along with any openings for doors and windows. At this stage, electrical and utility rough-ins are also completed to prepare the space for lighting, outlets, and future equipment or upgrades.
5. Exterior Construction
5. Exterior Construction
Roofing, siding, doors, and trim are installed to fully enclose the structure. At this point, the pole barn is weather-tight and ready for interior buildout, which may include storage areas, workspace preparation, or future finishing.
6. Interior Buildout
6. Interior Buildout
Based on the design and your intended use, we complete the interior buildout to bring the space to life. This may include partitioned areas, electrical and plumbing installations, insulation, interior finishes, and any custom features necessary to support the building’s day-to-day use.
Pole Barn Construction vs. Stick Built
Pole barns are built using large posts set into the ground, while stick-built buildings rely on closely spaced wall studs installed on a full concrete foundation. The right option for you depends on your budget, timeline, and how you want the space to be used.
Benefits of Pole Barn Construction Over Stick Built:
- Faster Build
- Lower Cost per Square Foot
- Wide-Open Interior Space
- Flexible Design
- Great for Rural Properties
“Art and his team are amazing! Good, hard-working guys who are passionate about making your dreams a reality. They are honest, fast, and accurate. Everything you could want in a builder.”
